A two person produce unit made up of Taku and VERBAL. While engaged in remix work and creating original songs aquiring the vocal track to "The Way We Were" (a Barbara Streisand cover), and arranging the song in a R&B style featuring VERBAL as a rapper was the beginning of it all.
After LISA joined as a vocalist the group started its activity as m-flo.
In July of 1997, their major record label debut coincided with their CD and vinyl released as an indies artist selling out on the day of its release.
Their first maxi single "the tripod e.p." ranked ninth on the Oricon music charts. Their popularity quickly spreading across the entire country through radio play, their first album "Planet Shining" released in 2000 climbed to 6th on the Oricon music charts.

Parallel to their activity as m-flo, their activity also extends to creating songs for other artists, collaboration work and remixes.
Their ninth maxi single "come again released in 2001 comes in fourth on the Oricon charts, and their second album "EXPO EXPO" released that same year ranks in at third solidifying their place in the Japanese music scene.
After releasing 12 singles, two albums, and two remix albums, LISA departs from the group to concentrate on her solo career. However Taku and VERBAL start up their own labels "Tachytelic Records" and "espionage records" repectively, and polish their personal production skills which they are utilizing more actively compared to their debut era.

They restart their activity in 2003 with a new style - changing collaboration artists with every song.
Starting with Crystal Kay, they realize dream collaborations with 17 artists including CHEMISTRY, BoA, Ryuichi Sakamoto, CRAZY KEN BAND in their third album "ASTROMANTIC" released in 2004 which ranks in at number two on the Oricon charts selling over 500,000 copies.

They create a wave that has never previously existed in the Japanese music scene.

And on 8/24/2005 they release the second chapter to their "Loves" series with their fourth album "BEAT SPACE NINE." From teenagers Emyli and Miliyah Kato to Akiko Wada, a 37 year veteran of the music business and original member LISA, the mammoth "Loves" album featuring a total of 12 collaborating artists crossed over age and genre borders and ranked in at number one on the Oricon charts.

The Japan-wide tour following the release of such a special album was a complete success at each stop, and the final stop held at the Nihon Budokan on November 2nd rocked 10,000 fans.

On the day of the Budokan concert, the remix album "DOPE SPACE NINE" is released.
In the hands of the remix skills of KREVA, Maboroshi, Shinichi Osawa, CKB-Annex, etc. have created tracks that can be said to be completely reproduced original songs. And on new years eve 2005, appeared on NHK's Kohaku Uta Gassen with Akiko Wada. On 1/1/2006 "BEAT SPACE NINE-special edition-" was released with came with a DVD containing music clips of "let go" "DOPAMINE" "Loop In My Heart" and "TRIPOD BABY." On 2/22, the DVD release "m-flo TOUR 2005 BEAT SPACE NINE at Nihon Budokan" featuring footage of m-flo's Budokan concert took third on the Oricon music charts and excited the music DVD charts. During the summer of 2006, Emi Hinouchi and Ryohei were added to the m-flo family, and on 6/28 "Summer Time Love / m-flo loves Emi Hinouchi & Ryouhei" was released. On 7/26, a new "Sotoshigoto" compilation "m-flo inside-WORKS BEST 2-" will be released containing tracks that the members of m-flo have produced or have been featured on. This summer, starting with SUMMER SONIC 06 and ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL, they plan to appear on various music festivals.
